Step-By-Step Guide For Your Corporate Candle Making Workshop

Step-By-Step Guide For Your Corporate Candle Making Workshop

Team building workshops not only ease the stress that comes with everyday responsibilities at work, but also strengthen the bond between colleagues. It enables them to discover something new outside the workplace, whether it’s about each other or a new talent they never thought they had.

If you’re weaving through all the team-building options for your colleagues, why not consider a candle making workshop? Crafting something with their own hands can make a fulfilling and insightful team bonding experience.

Moreover, the candles that they make can be used at home, especially when they are looking forward to a comforting aromatherapy session after a stressful day.

You can hold your own candle making workshop with the help of Scent Supply Co’s step-by-step guide and simply buy soy wax and other candle making supplies from our shop in Singapore. Alternatively, you can ask our staff to lead your team’s candle making workshop in any location you prefer.

If you would like to try your hand at candle-making with our workshops or buy any of our supplies to make your own candles, here’s all you need to know.

Candle Making Supplies You Will Need

1. Candle Wax

Of course, one of the most important supplies in the candle making process is your candle wax. If you’re wondering which type of wax to get for your candle making workshop, why not go for a more sustainable option and get 100% natural soy wax?

This type of candle wax is eco-friendly and on top of that, they’re easy to use and handle for beginners. You can buy 100% natural soy wax in Singapore from our online store.

2. Fragrance Oils

When you make scented candles in your workshop, you’ll need fragrance oils to mix with the soy wax. You can go for a variety of scents for your candle creations.

For a relaxing aroma, consider a Calming Lavender scent that boasts a lively burst of citrusy lemon and the uplifting wonders of lavender. Should you want something warm and musky, you can go for our Cardamom & Vetiver Bourbon scent, which has an opening note of cardamom and fresh grapefruit tea.

And when you join our candle making workshop, you can rest assured that our experienced team will pick out the best-selling fragrance oils to ensure that you’ll find something that appeals to your senses.

3. Candle Wicks

For the candle wicks, which you will light up for burning the candle, you can choose between cotton wicks or wood wicks.

Cotton wicks are strands of cotton that have been braided. In the candle making process, they are dipped in wax and compressed to hold their shape. This type of wick is easiest to light and produces a tall flame.

Wood wicks, on the other hand, are thin slabs of wood that are made specifically for candles. They make a nice crackling sound to add to the ambience of the room. This type of wick burns lower compared to the cotton wick and smoulders over time. This helps in warming the wax and releasing the aroma of the scented candle evenly.

In contrast, the cotton wick soaks up the wax and uses it as fuel to burn for a longer time.

4. Pouring Pitcher

A pouring pitcher is candle making equipment where you can melt your wax and combine it with your fragrance oil. These also make it easier for you to pour your melted wax into the candle container easily.

5. Candle Containers

Candle containers are where you will be placing your wick and melted soy wax. You can choose between glass jars, ceramic jars, or candle tins as containers for your scented candle.

Glass jars for candles are non-porous and designed to be strong to withstand the pressure from the candle’s heat.

Tin jars are pretty inexpensive and versatile, making them reusable even when the candle runs out.

Lastly, ceramic jars are aesthetic containers, most preferred by jar collectors or artsy candle makers. They’re durable, and like tin jars, they can be repurposed as decorations or even desk utensil holders.

6. Thermometer

A thermometer is needed to make sure your candle wax is at an appropriate temperature during the whole process. When your candle wax is too cool or too hot, you might not be able to get the results you want.

7. Wick Holder

A wick holder keeps the wick in place when you pour the scented soy wax mixture into the container.

How To Make Scented Soy Candles

1. Prepare all your supplies for candle making. Place your soy wax in the pouring pitcher and heat it, by placing it in a double boiler. Make sure not to overheat your wax as it may result in discolouration.

2. If you want to add fragrance oil to your candles, add it to the pouring pitcher and make sure that the melted soy wax is not too cool or else the fragrance oil will not dissolve properly. When your wax does not have the right temperature, the fragrance oil will end up pooling at the bottom of the pouring pitcher and won’t combine with your wax no matter how much you stir it. You can ask our staff about the temperature recommendations of our soy wax when you purchase them at our shop. Use a thermometer to check the temperature of the candle wax during the process, so you avoid overheating the wax.

3. Once you’ve finished mixing the soy wax and the fragrance oil, let the mixture cool down in the pouring pitcher until it reaches the right pouring temperature.

4. Prepare the containers and wicks for pouring. You can use a hot glue gun to paste the wick at the bottom centre of the container. Use a wick holder to keep the wick in place, then pour the soy wax mixture into the candle container. Since the wick will soften and bend once the hot wax is poured all over it inside the container, having a wick holder will come in handy.

5. Let the scented candles cool completely. This will take a couple of hours, depending on the size of your jar.

6. After the soy wax has cooled down, trim the wick so that about 1-inch of the wick remains for the user to light up when they use it.
